Do you drink juice in addition to smoothie?

Ann Asks Dale:

Do you drink juice in addition to the smoothie?

If the juice is created by removing the fiber from fruit or vegetables I do not drink it. The exception is pure green juice, but I dislike the taste of pure green juice. The reason I do not drink or recommend drinking pure fruit or vegetable juice, especially apple and/or carrot, is the insulin response a person can have to the juice when you consume it without the fiber. Therefore, I begin with frozen organic grapes and add any mixture of the following frozen fruit:

  • Apples
  • Bananas
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Nectarines
  • Plums

I put the frozen fruit in the VitaMix along with two of the homemade frozen Green Vegetable Concentrate “pucks” and 12 ounces of water. I create this “smoothie” the day I consume it. I eat it alternately with the spoon version with all the oatmeal and nuts, etc., in it (which is also made the day I consume it).

Notice: I do not include any citrus fruit (orange, lemon, lime, etc.) this may be a personal preference due to my years of conversations with people who have moved south and are now consuming citrus every day. A very common complaint is that they have many more aches and pains in joints (than they had before moving south) that go away when they stop consuming citrus fruit.
